I have read his book and have certainly been making an effort to avoid excuses... some easy, some not so easy. It is amazing what we will do in the name of blame!! Many of my clients that talk about losing weight come up with the heritage excuses... oh yah! It is interesting their response when I direct them differently. Learning tons and having fun with it!

@Barking Unicorn ~ "A great deal of our energy and time are wasted on explanations of things that are none of the asker’s business. "

That is an absolutely wonderful observation. Freeing ourselves from this "social-morality entrapments", I have found, allows me to do more true-self work.

@Steve - Thanks for this post. I've enjoyed following you on Twitter ;)

I read Wayne Dyer's Book - Excuses Begone and I found it fantastic.Last night I watched his PBS program and again I was in awe of his inspiration. I have pretty much have everything Wayne Dyer wrote and I find him one of the best inspirational writers and speakers in the industry. I have his 18 Excuses with the Affirmations pasted on my office wall so I can read them everyday.

Great article and keep up the good work.

Very insightful and definitely worth the read. Wayne Dyer is an excellent speaker and his techniques for grabbing everyone's attention had me mesmerized. Oh to be that good...
As for the thought of allowing excuses to hold me back, that is absurd. I will never be the guy that says I can't because... I will be the guy that says look out, here I come. Go big or go home!
Thanks for the review. I'll be back, so keep em coming...

"Excuses are like flatulence: everybody has some and no one wants to heart it." ~ The Barking Unicorn.

Yet everyone demands an "explanation" of one's actions. We are "held accountable" by relatives, friends, governments, credit agencies, bankers, etc., etc. A great deal of our energy and time are wasted on explanations of things that are none of the asker's business.

Excuses and explanations are unskillful means: actions which bring us no nearer to true happiness.

"Never complain and never explain."

Excuses and explanations are given in hope of shaping someone's opinion of you. That is unskillful as well.

"Pride is concern for what you think of yourself. Vanity is concern for what others think of you."

What other people think of me is none of my business.
